What the ATS resume checker looks at
Format and readability
Can the text be read, does it run in one reading order, are there tables or images that hide information?
Sections
Contact details, summary, experience with dates, education and skills: the parts systems look for.
Content and impact
Measurable results, strong opening verbs, no “I” or “we”, points that are one to two lines long.
How the resume score works
Your resume score is the weighted share of about 30 checks your resume passes. Important checks, such as readable text, contact details, work experience and measurable results, count up to three times as much as small ones. A check that passes in part counts half.

What your score means
- 85–100Most checks pass. Fix anything still marked High, then tailor the wording to each job.
- 70–84A solid base with a few clear gaps. The fix-first list shows which ones weigh most.
- 50–69Several important checks fail, often missing results, dates or sections. Start at the top of the list.
- 0–49Something basic is missing, or the file’s text can’t be read. Check the format results first.
The score measures how readable and complete your resume is. It does not predict how a specific employer will rank you.

ATS resume checker: questions
Is this an ATS score checker?
Yes. You get an ATS score out of 100 for your resume, a score for each category and the checks behind it, so you can see exactly why the score is what it is.
What is a good ATS score?
Aim for 85 or more, with nothing left marked High. The score measures how readable and complete your resume is, not how an employer will rank you, so after that the best use of your time is tailoring the wording to each job.
Is my score the same in every employer’s system?
No. Every applicant tracking system works differently and none of them publish a score. Our checks cover what they commonly need: readable text, one reading order, standard sections and dates, and clear results.
Can I check a CV for UK or European jobs?
Yes. Choose where you are applying and the check follows that country’s usual practice, for example no photo for UK and US applications, and A4 paper.
What is an ATS?
An applicant tracking system (ATS) is software employers use to collect, store and search job applications. It reads your resume as text, so a layout it can’t read in the right order, or details hidden in images, can mean a recruiter never sees them.
Is the resume check free?
Yes. The score, the top issues and one guided fix are free, with one new check a day. You can edit your resume and download it for free. A pass unlocks the full report, every fix, live checks and PDFs without the footer.
What does the score mean?
It is the share of checks your resume passes; a check that could be better counts half. It shows what to improve. No tool can promise how a specific employer’s system will rank you, so we don’t.
Which files can I upload?
PDF and Word (.docx) files up to 10 MB with selectable text, including PDFs exported from Figma, Canva or Google Docs. Scanned images and old .doc files can’t be read.
How do I improve my resume score?
Start with the issues marked High: they weigh most. Common fixes are adding numbers to your results, starting each bullet point with an action, giving every role dates, and using standard section names. The report shows how each line should read.
What happens to my file?
The file is read in your browser and isn’t uploaded or stored. Its text is sent once to fill in the editor and is not kept.
Does it work in other languages?
Yes. Resumes in English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Turkish are recognised, and the editor prints headings in your resume’s language.
