ATS report & resume check

How the ATS resume checker and report work

What the resume checker looks at, how the score is calculated and what is free.

Updated October 29, 2026

Many employers use an applicant tracking system (ATS) to collect and search applications before a person reads them. The ATS report reads your resume the way these systems do, as plain text, and runs checks on format, sections and wording.

Open the report

  1. Upload a resume on the free ATS resume checker page, or open a resume in the editor and choose “ATS report” in the top bar.
  2. Read the overview: your score, the score for each area and the issues to fix first.
  3. Choose a Fix button to go straight to the line, or “Fix all” to work through the issues one at a time.

What it checks

  • Format and readability: real, selectable text, one reading order, no information hidden in tables or images, a sensible length.
  • Sections: contact details, summary, work experience with dates, education and skills, under standard headings.
  • Content and impact: bullet points that start with an action, results with numbers, no “I” or “we”, no filler phrases.

How the score works

The score is the share of checks your resume passes. A check that could be better counts half. No tool can promise how a specific employer’s system will rank you, so we don’t: the report shows what commonly causes problems and how to fix it.

Free and with a pass

  • Free: the score, the area scores and the top issues, with one new check a day. Changes you make in between are checked the next day.
  • With a pass: the full report with every issue, how each line should read, every guided fix and a check whenever you open it.
Tip: Download from the editor without a pass and we remind you once if the report found things to fix, so you can fix them before you send it.
