The short answer

An executive resume opens with a short leadership summary and three to four headline results, then shows each role with its scope: revenue, budget, team size and markets. Every bullet should connect a decision to a business result. Keep it to two pages, focus on the last 10 to 15 years and use a formal, easy-to-scan layout.

Questions

How long should an executive resume be?

Two pages is standard. Give the last 10 to 15 years in detail and summarize earlier roles in a line each.

What makes an executive resume different?

Scope and results. Every role should show the size of what you led, such as revenue, budget, team and markets, and every bullet should tie a decision to a business result.

Should an executive resume have a summary?

Yes. Three to four lines on your industry, the scale you lead and the results you are known for. Many readers decide from this section alone.

Do I need a cover letter as an executive?

Often, yes. Recruiters and boards use it to understand why this role and why now. Keep it short and specific to the company.
