Photo and country conventions
Whether to add a photo, which paper size to use and what personal details to include depends on where you apply.
Updated October 8, 2026
Resume conventions differ between countries. Luxury Resume asks where you are applying when you start, and shows the usual practice in the Design tab under “Country and photo”. You can change it at any time.
Common practice by region
- United States and Canada: no photo, no date of birth or marital status, US Letter paper.
- United Kingdom and Ireland: usually called a CV; no photo; A4.
- Germany, Austria and Switzerland: a professional photo is still common, though not required; A4.
- Türkiye: a photo is common for local employers and usually optional for international companies; A4.
- Gulf and Middle East: a photo and nationality are often included; A4.
These are common conventions, not rules. When a job ad says what to include, follow the ad.
Add or hide a photo
- Open Personal information and choose Upload photo.
- The photo is cropped to a square and resized in your browser before it is saved.
- Use “Show photo on resume” to turn it on or off without deleting it.
Tip: Use a recent, neutral headshot with a plain background. Most templates show it next to your name; Two-column templates show it at the top of the sidebar.
